A Guide To Stylish Window Treatments

You can breathe new life into an old window by installing stylish treatments. There are obviously many different types of window treatments that can add style to your interior. If you want something that is functional and stylish at the same time, a drapery and rod system is hard to beat. This article explains the key drawback advantages of different drapery and rod systems.

Rod Materials

First of all, it is important you choose the right rod material. If you plan on actually using your drapes to block light and give your room privacy, you want rods that are easy to open and close. Metal rods are very common, stylish, and easy to operate. They are also strong so they can support even the thickest of drape fabric.

Wooden rods are also popular, but they aren't a good idea if you actually want to open and close the drapes. They might be more decorative, and they can blend in very well with your existing window trim. However, they won't be very easy to open and close. Wooden rods often need to be waxed in order to enable the rings to slide across them. Basically, if you want more functional drapes, install metal rods. If you want wooden rods, you need to realize that they might be difficult to open and close.

Valances are a great choice if you want a permanent drape to cover just the top portion of your window. Importantly, this will also hide any blind mechanism you installed at the top of the window. Valances are mostly cosmetic drapes. They will only block a little bit of light, and they cannot be opened or closed. But, they fabric, couple with a stylish drapery rod can add some flair to an otherwise ordinary window. Valances are commonly installed on windows where you cannot open and close the drape. A window that is hard to reach or too high up doesn't need a functional drape system that can close all the way.

Tier Curtains

Tier curtains are drapes that are installed right across the middle of the window. That is, the rod is installed halfway down the window, letting light in above, and block below. These can look odd and out of place. But, they are popular for windows that need some more privacy without blocking all of the light. As with normal drapery rods, you need to think about the rod material.

There are so many ways to add style and functionality to your windows using these various treatments.
