When To Replace Your Windows

Blog

Homeowners have their windows replaced for so many reasons. There may be damage to their windows, the windows may be outdated, the windows may not offer them something they want, or there could be any number of other reasons for replacing them. You can become familiar with some signs you may want to have your windows replaced in the following information:

Water is getting inside

If you are feeling dampness or seeing puddles on your floor below a window, then this indicates there is likely a leak. You may be finding water in the window sill and this would also indicate a leak. If there is water coming in while your windows are closed, then this can be due to damaged windows that you should have replaced with new ones. This can save you from so many future problems, ranging from water damage and mold growth to insect infestations.

Insects are getting inside

If you keep finding proof of insects along your window sill, it can mean this is where they shed some of themselves or relieved themselves. However, if you find a lot of wings at once, then this can mean that you are having termites come in through the window and this can mean big trouble for your home down the line. You should have the windows replaced and your home treated for pests, as soon as possible. Keep in mind that replacing your windows with vinyl windows can help to prevent issues with pests in the future since vinyl is pest-resistant.

There are drafts coming through the window

Some drafts can be so strong you can feel them as you walk near the window. However, a draft doesn't need to be this strong to make it hard for you to keep your home heated and cooled. Even very small drafts can mean big problems. If you walk slowly through your home with a lit candle, then you can spot the drafts because you will see the flame dance and move as the draft blows it. If these drafts are coming in through the windows, then having them replaced can really help make your home more energy efficient. Vinyl windows are a great choice because they offer better insulation than many other types of windows.

The windows aren't what you want

You may have windows you don't like the look of, or that you wish functioned differently than they do. Or, your windows may be made of a material you aren't a fan of. If any of these things are true, then this would be an example of another time when you would want to have new windows installed. Consider having your windows replaced with vinyl ones, so you know the windows will be durable, resistant to many types of damage, energy efficient, and cost-effective.

Start Spring Cleaning Early

Every year, I make a list of spring cleaning tasks. Unfortunately, I’m a procrastinator. Therefore, I rarely complete every item on my extensive list. This year, I plan to start my spring cleaning early. One of the tasks I’m passionate about is cleaning windows. When I get finished with my windows, I want them to appear invisible due to their level of cleanness. To accomplish this task, I use both over-the-counter window cleaners and natural cleaning agents. To reduce the incidence of smudges, you can wipe your windows down with a newspaper. On this blog, you will learn how to clean your windows before spring arrives.
